About haematology

Haematology is the study of blood cells. It is one of the most frequently requested areas of the laboratory because blood counts are useful in so many situations, from fever to routine check-ups. Haematology studies the blood itself: red cells, white cells, platelets and haemoglobin. It includes everyday tests such as the complete blood count.

What haematology covers

The best-known haematology test is the complete blood count (CBC). It reports haemoglobin, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, along with related values. Other common tests in this area include the ESR and the peripheral blood smear, which your doctor may add when needed.

Why it matters

Changes in blood counts can point towards anaemia, infection, inflammation or other conditions. A single value outside the range is a reason to talk to your doctor, not a diagnosis on its own.

Before your visit

A blood count usually does not need fasting. If the same request slip includes sugar or lipid tests, follow the fasting advice for those. Wear sleeves that are easy to roll up, and tell us if you bruise easily.

Your report

Ask for the expected report time when the sample is taken. Keep your reports, because doctors often compare counts over time. Printed and WhatsApp copies are both available.

Please note: this page explains the service in general terms. It is not medical advice. Ask your doctor which tests you need, and contact Aarogya Seva Lab to confirm that a specific test is available.
